SEED TO SIP:
This delicious coffee was produced by women coffee growers of the Central de Cafetaleros del Nor Oriente (CECANOR) Cooperative in the Lambayeque region of north-west Peru. In 2004 female members of CECANOR asked for their coffees to be separated from the men’s to gain visibility and a voice inside their community. Today, under the Café Femenino program these coffees are globally marketed and are an important vehicle for social change and empowerment for women in rural Peru, who were traditionally marginalised and relied on men for financial support. As a result, the women coffee growers of CECANOR now directly receive the revenue generated from sales of their coffees, and fully participate as equal members and leaders in their cooperative. Café Femenino funds have been invested in community betterment projects including children’s libraries, schools, health and nutritional education, and programs that build self-esteem, human rights awareness, and literacy.
23 Degrees proudly supports the Café Femenino program and donates a percentage of all Café Femenino coffees to future projects empowering women, their families and communities.
