Ethiopian coffees hold a special place in every coffee lover’s heart. This natural processed Yirgacheffe Aricha, Grade 1 is sure to impress with its deep juicy strawberry notes and its rich, creamy texture.
We are roasting and shipping this delicious Ethiopian for filter on the first Wednesday of every month.
The coffee is grown at altitudes between 2000 to 2200 metres in mainly small gardens belonging to families who live around the ‘kabele’ (town) of Aricha in the district of Yirgacheffe. Families typically have a farm size ‘garden’ of 0.5 to 2 hectares producing between 1 to 10 bags of green coffee. Most ‘garden’ coffees are organic by default.
The coffee cherries once harvested are sold to the local milling station Alemayehu Urdofa. At the milling station the cherries are sorted by hand before being dried for 4 – 6 weeks on raised sunbeds. The sweet, fruity mucilage of the coffee cherry penetrates the inner beans during this process, creating the very prominent fruitiness and sweetness, which we love in Ethiopian coffees.
